We Choose Virtues Parenting Cards

I was recently given the opportunity to use We Choose Virtues Parenting Cards with my sons. I'm a huge supporter of Character Education, so I was anxious to try the cards at home.

The cards offer different topics, with easy to understand definitions for conversation starters. There is also a Biblical element for families who choose to integrate Religion into family discussions. I've worked with older students on Character Education programs, and I personally like to see discussions about morals and ethics happen when children are younger, and then continue as they get older. I also like the approach of Character Education starting at home. I obviously know that every family is different, and so I personally was glad to start using We Choose Virtues in our home.

Each card is a great conversation starter. Our two sons are so different from one another, and therefore, we never know where our discussions will go. That is part of the program that I enjoy. You can follow the cards exactly, or use bits and pieces to fit your comfort level.

We have grandparents helping us with our children, and we have found that the discussions are even more fruitful with our three generations discussing various topics. It has certainly helped us to understand one another better!

Looking for a program to use in your home? You can find the Parenting Cards at http://wechoosevirtues.com.

Nidra Patented Contoured Sleep Mask Review

If you're a regular reader of Preppy Mom, you won't be surprised to know, once again, that I'm a terrible sleeper...at night. I'm a champ at the nap, but that doesn't allow me to accomplish much.

I was given the opportunity to try the Nidra Patented Contoured Sleep Mask over the last couple of months, and I really think it has helped. I've tried sleep masks before, but they sometimes leave me feeling claustrophobic, or like I'm wearing goggles. I know, I'm weird.

The Nidra mask fits snugly, but not tight at all. It has patented vents, so that it's easy to breathe. The material is soft, and feels so nice against my face, and it really does offer a darker than dark sleeping experience. It doesn't bother me if I've just fallen asleep (obviously, the mask doesn't have magical powers), and the sun starts to peek in, or my husband is getting ready for work.

I'm working on the rest, but if light bothers you while you're sleeping, or if you live in a dorm or apartment with night owls, I would give the Nidra Sleep Mask a shot. The ventilation alone makes it fabulous.

You can find the Nidra Patented Contoured Sleep Mask at:

Ozeri 4x3razor Digital Pocket 3D Pedometer Review

I was sent the Ozeri 4x3razor Digital Pocket 3D Pedometer to review, and while I really should be using it, my almost 9 year old son has been wanting a pedometer for months. We actually think he may end up being a long distance runner one day, but for now, he likes to walk the mall with his 80 year old grandparents when he isn't in school.

The 3D Tri-Axis Bosch Sensor from Germany is certainly more advanced than anything that he needs, but it provides superior accuracy. It is actually designed for high-performance athletes, the 4x3razor is the world's thinnest and lightest pedometer -- 0.5cm (less than 0.2") thick and weighs just half an ounce.

It records steps, distance, calories, fat burned and exercise time with the most advanced Tri-Axis technology. It counts up to 1 million steps with 7-Day Memory, and includes a built-in Clock and Sports Timer with Auto Sleep technology.

Obviously this is way more than a 9 year old needs, but he loves it. He is already looking forward to Spring when he can start running. I may even start, as I should!

This pedometer is the creme of the creme of pedometers. If you are an avid exerciser, or if you know someone who is, this is for you!

You can find it at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/b005g00ah2.

Holiday Wish List Item #11 - The Pearl Girls Duchess Pearl Earrings

I became acquainted with The Pearl Girls several months ago, when I purchased their Duchess Pearl Earrings. They are based out of Athens, GA, and needless to say, they are fabulous. The owner, India Rowe is so personable, that I considered asking her to be my BFF. Since I'm not a stalker, instead, I try to support their small but thriving company in any way possible.

Since I'm so conservative, I got a little crazy and decided to go for more than a stud or huggie. I can be a wild woman sometimes! I decided to order the Duchess Earrings, which were designed after the Duchess of Cambridge's pearl earrings. The best part? They're only $49!! That's a price to get online for right away!!

These were not endorsed by the Duchess, although they were styled after her great taste. Don't we all wish we had a bit of her style? These are sterling silver hoops with a drop pearl. It is great to be a Duchess and what a great pair of earrings! Easy to wear everywhere, I personally find myself reaching for them over and over. They're actually M's (AKA-Preppy Dad) favorite earrings of mine.
These earrings offer gorgeous pearls, gorgeous value and a different pearl earring that looks great alone or paired with a classic pearl necklace. They are stunning, while not being over the top.

You can find these beauties at www.thepearlgirls.com. For $49, they would also be a great gift for someone else with great style-maybe your BFF, sister, mother or daughter. I adore mine.

Holiday Wish List Item #10 - Cate McNabb Cosmetics

As a makeup junkie and as a blogger, I am so lucky to have the opportunity to try a variety of products from different companies. One of the companies that I've been able to try is Cate McNabb. They were so kind to send me a few mini lip glosses to try.

Belle Red

Wednesday Pink

Poppin Bottles
Cate McNabb Cosmetics' glosses are formulated with shea butter and jojoba oil. Cate McNabb lip gloss offers day-to-night color with a hydrating, glossy glow. The beautiful range of shades provides shine over lipstick for a hint of drama or a subtle, final touch to complete any look. The first thing I noticed was how great the glosses smell. They are sweet smelling, but not overpowering. The color payoff is also great. I've been on a red lipstick kick for about the last six months, and Belle Red is perfect as a daily red. The Wednesday Pink is also a great daily color. I prefer the Poppin Bubbles over other colors to add sparkle and shine. The glosses also wear remarkably well, and don't need to be reapplied too often.
Cate McNabb Cosmetics is a certified cruelty-free, paraben-free, and socially conscious luxury cosmetics line. Formulated without unnecessary chemicals, Cate McNabb provides a less harmful option through bold hues and high-performing natural products.
Cate McNabb Cosmetics has come out with several holiday gift sets—expertly paired and perfectly packaged from their Holiday collection, bold, natural cosmetics.

  • Sugar Plum $75 (Over a $150 Value)

  • Smokey In Slate $50 ($100 Value)

  • A Golden Affair $75 (Over a $150 Value)

  • Everyday Express $50 ($100 Value)

  • Blood Red & Bordeaux $50 ($100 Value)

  • A Lotta Bit Of Lip $50 ($100 Value)
You can find any of these kits, and much more at www.catemcnabbcosmetics.com. I'll absolutely be trying more from their line, and these kits would make any beauty obsessed girl happy during the holiday season. How about the Blood Red and Bordeaux kit for New Year's Eve?

Holiday Wish List Item #9 - Jamberry Nails!

Having your nails look polished and neat has always been important, but nail art has become a trendy fashion accessory in the last few years. I was recently given the opportunity to try Jamberry Nails from one of their independent consultants, Shana Albin. I was intrigued to try nail wraps, as I love having my nails done, but I'm not very skilled at the art of nails, and can't justify having mani/pedis done in a salon very often.

Jamberry Nails is a company started by three sisters. Lyndsey, Christy and Keri wanted to find a simpler, more cost effective way to keep their hands looking polished. Jamberry Nails launched in late 2010. The DIY, at-home application of nail wraps with incredible variety of designs caught on quickly and a new era of nail art was born! Gone are the days of nails that chip and flake after only a few days! Gone are the days of the single colored manicure. Gone are the mani/pedis that take all afternoon and most of your cash too! Jamberry nail wraps arm you with style and confidence while demanding very little of your time or money.

Since I had never applied nail wraps before, I was a little nervous, but Shana sent amazing instructions, and I didn't have much trouble applying the wraps. I chose Pink Ombré, as a simple look to get started with. Pink Ombré is considered to be a Sparkling Solid, which come in a wide range of colors and in three different finishes, solid, glimmer and matte. Wear them on their own or with one of our complimenting designs. Jamberry Wraps last up to 2 weeks on fingernails and 4 weeks on toenails, and cost about $15.

Jamberry offers literally hundreds of designs, and an extremely reasonable price. They also have a subscription service, they have polishes, and beautiful hand and nail care kits.

Why not treat yourself to an easy at home manicure that lasts, and offers fun patterns and finishes? The subscription boxes would be a fun care package to sign your daughter (or wife, or yourself...) up for a holiday gift that will delight long after the holidays! We may not be thinking sandals right now, but there are so many fun designs to choose from, I know I'll be using Jamberry wraps for summer pedis!

To look at all the fun wraps, and to purchase, you can find everything you would ever possibly be looking for on Shana's Jamberry site. Find her at http://shanaalbin.jamberrynails.net/shopwww.shanaalbin.jamberrynails.net or www.facebook.com/shanasjam. A great stocking stuffer, for sure!

Holiday Wish List Item #8 - Crabberrie Totes AND a Giveaway!!

Congratulations, Jennifer R.! You won!

I wrote a review of Crabberrie totes a couple of months ago, and I love them so much, I have to include them on my holiday must have wish list. Crabberrie is a company based out of Virginia, that makes the cutest tote bags ever! Their totes can be found in boutiques in the DC area and beyond.

I had seen Crabberrie's totes, and I immediately became obsessed (shocker, I know). I was able to speak with the owners, Shea and Mike about their company, and about the growth of their line. This is a company that is definitely one to watch! They make totes for all of your kids' athletic teams, for sororities, a beautiful regency line and of course totes that will show off your love if all things preppy.

worked with Crabberrie on an equestrian project, and they were so lovely to send me their Camo Dog Tote. I carry it everywhere, and I get tons of compliments. It's like our Waffles, except in pink and green! If Retrievers came in pink and green, you know I'd have one!

These totes should absolutely be on your holiday wish list. They can go with you everywhere, and they will take you from the gym to errands, and drinks with the girls. Crabberrie has so many patterns to choose from, it will be hard to pick just one.

I couldn't very well write about Crabberrie without showing one of their classic designs. They are very reasonably priced, too, with their large totes being just $48! Please check out www.crabberrie.com, or follow them on twitter @crabberrie. Show them some preppy love, because they are awesome.

Crabberrie sent a lobster tote for a giveaway, so one of my fabulous readers will be getting a lobster tote for the holidays! Enter through Rafflecopter below!

Lillie's Flora Collection, by Katherine Cosmetics would be a great gift for any gal-I know, I said gal...

Holiday Wish List Item #6 - Katja Tamara Handbags

If you're hoping for luxury this holiday season, I have the ultimate wish list item. A handbag from Katja Tamara. I personally have been lusting after the totes for a couple of years, but she also makes beautiful carryalls and clutches.

Katja's use of color is inspired, and her use of texture is luxurious. Her classic tote is made of python leather. It comes in fantastically bright colors, but also in black and grey. The tassel adds a bit more pop as well. The cobalt blue is on trend, and if you live someplace cold and grey, it is sure to liven up your winter wardrobe. It's also the perfect size that can go from office to evening, and right into the weekend.

Even the black tote comes with a colorful tassel, which, to me, adds a bit of whimsy.

Katja has an amazing eye for fashion, design, style and luxury products. She travels the world, and is able to encorporate her personal fashion sense with trends and colors into her line of handbags and jewelry. Katja Tamara has offices in San Francisco and in Singapore.

Katja Tamara's pistachio clutch is sure to be popular this spring and summer. I'm also including a picture of the tote in hot pink, because I just wouldn't be me if I didn't post a little pink and green!

Katja Tamara's bags are an ultimate luxury. If you've been good this year, make sure to include it on your wish list!

You can find Katja Tamara at www.katjatamara.com

Envyderm Cosmetics Lash Enhancing and Conditioning Mascara Review

Like many women, I'm constantly searching for the best mascara out there. Of course, I need a waterproof mascara, a natural looking mascara, one that gives me lash oomph, and then a few colors. I've found many I like, several I love, and also, I would say I've found THE everyday mascara for me. EnvyDerm gives a bit more volume than I like for every day, but I think most women like a bit more lash.

I was given the opportunity to try EnvyDerm's Eyelash Enhancement and Conditioning Mascara. I hadn't heard much about the brand before, as I've mainly stuck with department store brands over the years. I immediately was impressed that EnvyDerm includes several natural and pampering ingredients in their mascara, including peptides, keratin, Moroccan Argan Oil, Vitamins, Minerals, Amino Acids, Polymer and Nylon. All of this makes lashes long, thick and separated, while also conditioning them at the same time. I hate it when mascaras leave my lashes feeling crunchy, or when they flake later in the day.

I hate having my picture taken, but here is a picture of me without any makeup at all.

- EnvyDerm Mascara is a one of a kind clump-free mascara that instantly increases lash volume, definition and curl while promoting length and thickness with continued use.
- Hydroplat specialized peptide combined with hydrolyzed keratin to stimulate keratin production along the lash line for new hair stimulation and repairs damaged ones.
- Moroccan Argan Oil, Vitamins, Minerals and Amino Acids to nourish, fortify and add shine to your lashes.
- Luxurious Polymer and Nylon to add show-stopping volume and definition to your lashes, while natural waxes form an elastic veil that helps sculpt your lashes and add big time curl for a dramatic look.
- Unique hourglass shape Mascara brush to lift and separate lashes for defined lashes, while delivering the perfect amount of Mascara needed for optimal voluminous lashes.

This is a picture of me with a little highlighter and ONE coat of EnvyDerm Mascara. It is buildable, so you can create a lot of drama.

I would absolutely recommend giving EnvyDerm Mascara a try. I like that it takes care of my lashes, while providing beautiful lashes.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Holiday Wish List Item #5 - Personalized Totes from Textually Preppy

Every preppy woman (ok, mom) knows that monograms are an important part of who we are. Perhaps it's a little much to have my mittens in hot pink with a lime green monogram, but it just makes me happy. When I came across TextuallyPreppy and Stephanie Myers on Etsy, I knew I had found someone who would indulge me.

TextuallyPreppy is a small company based out of Chicago, and is owned by Stephanie Myers. TextuallyPreppy's logo was designed by Stephanie herself, and it says, "Monograms, Ribbons, & Pearls Complete Preppy Girls!"

TextuallyPreppy has a variety of items to be monogrammed, including cups, ornaments, travel mugs, straw cups, totes, and more. Since I'm a cosmetics addict, I ordered two totes from Stephanie. The small totes are a steal at $10, and she gets them out quickly! She has different sizes, shapes and colors to choose from.

I took a picture of my totes above. On one side, they have my name, and on the other, they have my monogram. She finished them off with matching polka dots and ribbons, and I'm all set! We're staying with family right now, and it just makes me happy to have a little pink and green in my life!

You can find TextuallyPreppy's shop on Etsy at https://www.etsy.com/shop/TextuallyPreppy, or http://etsy.me/1q4u39N. Stephanie has many things to choose from, and I'm sure any woman, young or young at heart would be delighted to have a personalized gift for the holidays.

Holiday Wish List Item #4 - JelaDesign Handmade Toys

As the holidays are speeding our way, I thought I'd look for some gifts to share with all of you that won't be found at the local mall. I think that it is so important to support small businesses.

As I was searching for pink and green things on Etsy-I just can't deny my true preppy colors-I came across JelaDesign Crocheted Handmade Toys from Croatia on Etsy.

Jela's toys are beautiful. She has a fun collection of dogs (which I LOVE), cats, bears, mice and bunnies, in a bright variety of colors. These lovies are made with TLC by Jela herself, and would be a treat for any child, or sentimental adult. They are priced from $35-$55 approximately, which is an amazing price for a handmade gift that is made with such intricacy.

I can imagine the joy when a little one opens a package and finds a sweet handmade toy inside. These lovies are surely a toy that will bring years of joy.

You can find Jela's Crocheted Toys at https://www.etsy.com/shop/JelaDesign?section_id=all. Jela is fabulous, and it is obvious that she loves what she does. Don't miss out on one of these!

Dalvia iSleep Ezy Review

I have had the unfortunate luck to have been an insomniac for pretty much my entire life. I remember staying up and reading all night when I was in the third grade. It's awful.

When I had the opportunity to try Dalvia iSleep Ezy, I was anxious to try something safe and natural. Dalvia iSleep Exy is a product of Dalvia Wellness Labs, a US-based company known for offering high-end quality health and wellness products.

iSleep Ezy is an all-effective and all-natural sleeping supplement designed to normalize a person’s sleeping cycle and prevent the negative effects of not having enough sleep.  It contains Melatonin, Magnesium and Calcium to name a few.  Melatonin helps control sleeping and waking cycles, as well as treat sleeping problems.  It helps control sleeping patterns of people who work night shifts, who have jetlag or insomnia, and can help to relieve anxiety and improve migraine frequency.

iSleep Ezy also contains magnesium that is a needed engine to power sleep.  Isleep Ezy has these two powerful ingredients - melatonin and magnesium that help people solve their sleeping problems and achieve maximum satisfaction on their sleeping hours.  To add, it contains calcium that helps to get restful sleep.

On a personal level, I've tried just about everything from Benadryl to prescriptions, and I can still be awake for days at a time. I've found that iSleep Ezy relaxes me enough, so that I'm able to relax enough and drift off. I feel ok about taking something natural, and I can feel it resetting my internal clock. I used to be up all night, and sleep well into the day.

I'm hopeful that the trend will continue. You can purchase iSleep Ezy at http://www.dalviawellness.com.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Holiday Wish List Item #3 - Bolder Bands

Like many, I'm slightly obsessed with Bolder Bands. Bolder Bands are such great headbands for yoga, Pilates, barre, running, walking, you name it. The idea isn't new, but Bolder Bands are different because they stay up! Oh, and they're super cute.

Bolder Bands come in so many different fabrics, it's hard to choose only one. At just $15, you don't have to! I'm growing out an unfortunate haircut. When will I learn? In 42 years, I've grown it, cut it, colored it, and started over again. My hair is at that stage that is even more unruly when I'm at yoga. Probably because I'm, um...moving? Anyhow, I bought a few Bolder Bands to try out, and I'm hooked!

So, if you're looking for something to put on your wish list, I recommend a few of these. I've pictured a few of my favorites, but take a look for yourself! They also have great lip balm - and I know a good lip balm! They also offer free shipping for orders over $45.

You can find Bolder Bands at www.bbolder.com.

Real Insect Excavation Kit by Dr. Cool

I'm always happy when I'm asked to review toys or activities for my kids. I know that we live in the age of computers and video games, especially as I type this on my tablet, but I really am hopeful that there are activities out there that will keep my boys occupied for more than ten minutes. As a former educator, I'm even more pleased when the activities are educational AND fun.

The Real Insect Excavator Kit by Dr. Cool was a pleasant surprise, and my boys (and neighbors' kids) were happy to have a new activity. I'm not going to lie, I really, REALLY dislike bugs. I've had to tone down my distaste, not wanting my boys to freak out when they see bugs around. The Insect Excavator Kit was very cool, however.

The excavation "site" is inside a green beetle, where there are three real bug specimens. The bugs are buried inside the digging block, and my young scientists uncovered a scorpion, spiny spider, and fortune beetle specimen. The insects are preserved inside acrylic, so they can be examined thoroughally from all sides. The science kit includes an excavation tool, brush, and magnifying glass. It also comes with an information booklet, so the kids can learn all about insects, arthropods, and arachnids. I like that the guide teaches about the bugs included, but also general info about bugs. There is also an activity booklet with games, mazes, and puzzles. These extra activities kept the kids engaged after their "dig" was complete.

I will definitely be looking for additional projects by Dr. Cool. More information about this kit and others can be found at https://www.discoverwithdrcool.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Holiday Wish List Item #1-Elizabeth and Victoria Jewelry

I thought it would be so much fun to put together a women's Holiday Wish List for those of us who are Preppy and Fabulous. This is something I've always wanted to do. In general, most of the items I list are do-able. It infuriates me a few years ago when a certain celebrity put together a must have list, and the items totaled something like $200,000. Not going to happen here!

Now, I'm not one of those women who says, "Don't bring me jewelry," or, "Flowers are such a waste." I'm a girly girl. I love jewelry (c'mon-really?), flowers, the color pink, you know...

I've come across the most lovely jeweler on Etsy. http://www.elizabethlydonstudio.etsy.com/ It's owned by two sisters, Elizabeth and Victoria. Secretly, I'd love to do what they do. How cool would it be to design, make and market your own line?!

began speaking with them, and they were excited to be on my Holiday List. I chose a necklace with a ruby, an emerald, and a sapphire, set in sterling silver to focus my piece on. It absolutely takes my breath away.

I wanted to give a little information about their business as well, so that you can see that they are real women. Elizabeth started with a successful career running a high-end interior design furnishings showroom, and found herself in courses studying gemology and jewelry fabrication. Embracing her life-long love of gems and jewelry, she began working at a fine jewelry store, was soon designing expensive custom pieces, and followed her passion to further research, education, and certification.

Elizabeth's eye for finding the most stunning materials has been refined and focused, and has become central to her creation of exquisite pieces designed to show off the character and beauty of each stone and gem.

When online retail brought the opportunity to expand the customer base, Elizabeth's sister Victoria, a graphic designer and art photographer, offered to help ship items during the busy holiday season, and the two were off and running.

Together, the sisters found they share a similar passion for design, fashion, style, and making the world more beautiful (one piece of jewelry at a time). Elizabeth and Victoria love searching for rare and unusual materials, working with suppliers and customers from all over the world, and combining their talents to create beautiful jewelry.

The stones in the necklace are an opaque, natural emerald, ruby and sapphire, with earth's beauty and imperfections, so you'll know it's real! Each stone is hand-faceted, coin-shaped and set in a Sterling Silver rhodium-finished bezel (NO tarnishing!). A "Bezel Setting" is a metal rim that encircles the sides of a stone and holds it securely. It hangs on an 18" silver chain.

The necklace that I've shown in this post, can be found in their Etsy store, http://www.elizabethlydonstudio.etsy.com/.

I cannot recommend a more professional duo to work with. They are excited for you to find just the right piece that fits your personality. If you're looking for s gift for your wife, girlfriend, daughter, mom - definitely look at the pieces at http://www.elizabethlydonstudio.etsy.com/. They are reasonable, and fun, and their work is stunning. Tell them you heard about them from me, but definitely see what they have to offer. You won't be sorry!
