Katherine Cosmetics

I've just become a makeup stylist for Katherine Cosmetics. It's a simple line founded by a long time cosmetics executive, who wanted to help women look beautiful, confident and classic, using fewer, better products. It's sold socially, and the belief is that you really only need 5 products to look pulled together and fabulous. Their lipstick line even donates to various charities.

I love this company-having worked for some large cosmetic companies in the past-this is beyond exciting. Their products are gorgeous!

Please check it out. If you double click on makeup stylists, you'll see me there! If you purchase anything, please make sure you choose me during check out (I'd really appreciate it).

Amazing Facts About Penguins Children's Book Review and Giveaway

Congratulations, Jaclynna B. For winning this giveaway! Please contact me ASAP with your shipping information. Thanks for following!

As a blogger, I have the opportunity to review some pretty cool stuff. As a parent, I'm really happy when it can be something interactive for my kids. I write a lot about beauty and skin care, which I LOVE, but my sons don't get too excited about either.

I was recently sent the e-Book : Amazing Facts About - Penguins, which is a picture book written for ages 4-12. My kids are six (well, he'll be six in two hours) and eight. My older son is very interested in science, and in animals, and because of these two reasons, he was willing to stop teasing his younger brother for long enough to read him a book. Penguins are so awesome-the Macaroni Penguin being my favorite. The boys loved the book, and I loved that they read it together.

If you have a little one at home, they'll love the pictures, and they'll understand the language. If your children are a little older, it will probably be a bit too easy for them, but they'll still enjoy it.

If you'd like to find the book, or learn more about the series, you can do so at, or

Exfolimate Face and Body Exfoliation Review

I had the opportunity to try Exfolimate over the past month. Exfolimate is designed in Australia, as an answer to achieving ultra smooth skin.

I've seen similar products before, but was hesitant to try the product, as the same tool was made to be used on your face and body. I realistically knew that the stainless steel edge was sanitary, but yet I felt better using a separate exfoliation tool for my face. Exfolimate uses innovative micro-groove technology etched into the smooth metal edge. The micro-grooves gently lift and remove lingering skin cells and debris to unveil younger, fresher skin.

Exfolimate uses a patented smooth edge micro groove technology, which gently releases dirt and oil embedded beneath your skin's surface. This super deep-cleanse improves tone and texture, while reducing pore size, oily patches, dry areas and visible signs of aging. So, basically, Exfolimate removes dead skin, oil, dirt, and other debris with it's metal edge. So, yup-it's kind of like that amazed gross that you can't look away from, a shocked amazed gross as you wonder how in the heck all of that could be on your skin and/or blocking your pores. Seriously.

So there, I said it. However, with all that aside, I could feel the difference. I still like doing a peel or microdermabrasion, and a body scrub, because, well...I'm addicted to product, and there's not one out there that I don't want to try! My skin is really dry and sensitive, so I did feel like this left my skin feeling less tight than a scrub or chemical exfoliant. When I got out of the shower, and put on body lotion and used my skin care routine, I could tell that everything absorbed much more quickly.

After a little more than a month, my skin looks better. Less dry, less flaky. I've definitely kicked up my skin care routine, but I think Exfolimate helps everything work BETTER!

Exfolimate is easy to find at

Mia Mariu Restauracel-C Thermal Microdermabrasion Review and Giveaway!

Congratulations, Tammy W.! You won! Please check your email for details.

I recently had the opportunity to try Mia Mariu's Restaurel-C Thermal Microdermabrasion kit. I love trying new skin care and beauty products, and so I was anxious to try this product.

This exfoliant is suitable for all skin types, and did not irritate my sensitive skin at all. It was an excellent alternative to microdermabrasion performed in a doctor's office. Mia Mariu delivers dramatic skin resurfacing benefits with Vitamin C micro-resurfacing spheres plus deep thermal action that warms the skin to help open, purify and minimize pores, as well as removing dead skin cells, which aids in the performance of other anti-aging products.

If you haven't ever used a warming exfoliant, I absolutely recommend it. I will definitely be using this weekly. Right now, I notice my skin is clearer, but I'm anxious to see the anti-aging benefits. My skin feels and looks great!

If you'd like to try Mia Mariu's Restaurel-C Thermal Microdermabrasion kit, or any of there skin care or color products, you can find them at

Leo SuperHero Children's Book Review

I recently had the opportunity to read Leo SuperHero - A Sunday Morning Adventure by The Brothers. As the mother of two young sons, I was so happy to have the opportunity to read Leo SuperHero to them!

Leo SuperHero is a seven year old who has super adventures before everyone wakes up on Sunday mornings. He has a superhero costume made by his mother, and along with his cat named Milkshake, he saves the day for a lost mouse.

The boys enjoyed the book, and personally, I was so happy to read a book that wasn't about something to do with video games! Another plus was that our eight year old superhero could read it to his little sidekick!

If you'd like your kiddos to read about Leo's adventures, you can find out more information at

MY Konjac Sponge with Activated Bamboo Charcoal Review

I recently had the opportunity to try MY Konjac Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal. Konjac sponges are a natural way to cleanse and exfoliate your face. The bamboo charcoal makes this particular sponge suitable for oily and acne prone skin.

Konjac sponges are made from the pure root of the Konjac plant and natural bamboo charcoal. This particular sponge is excellent for oily skin, and ideal for those with acne, frequent breakouts and problematic skin types. It contains activated carbon and various minerals that enhance absorption, perfect for removing excess oil. This Konjac sponge also contains natural antioxidants that help fight acne-causing bacteria.
If you haven't used a Konjac sponge before, it dries hard, but absorbs water and becomes quite squishy when it is wet. When I use a Konjac sponge to wash my face, I allow it to soak up water for several minutes before I use it. I put cleanser on my face, and then I scrub my face and neck in a circular motion with the sponge. My face is on the sensitive side, so I don't scrub hard. I like that this particular sponge is in a teardrop shape, and that it's easy to get to all the areas of your face. I worry about clogged pores on my nose, so I pay a little closer attention there. Konjac sponges are not harsh at all, but they do leave your face feeling very clean. When I'm done, I rinse the Konjac thoroughally, but I do not wring it. Since the Konjac sponge is made from natural fibers, it is possible to damage. I have a little hook that I hang it on to dry until my next use.

As with any sponge, a Konjac sponge does need to be sanitized in boiling water or in the microwave from time to time, and replaced as necessary, every few months.
I love using a Konjac sponge. I alternate with a cleansing brush every few days, and my face looks and feels terrific. This MY Konjac Sponge is recommended for oily skin, which my face is not. It hasn't irritated my face at all though. As a matter of fact, my complexion has always gotten rashy from time to time, and it has not done so all summer. I do feel like my pores are less congested, but obviously there is no way to shrink them permanently.
If you're interested in picking up MY Konjac Sponge, you can find it here.

Derma MD Hero Power Wash Review and Giveaway

Happy Day!! It's a great day because I'm having another giveaway, and I'm super excited!

If you follow my blog, you may have seen that I've been using Derma MD skincare for a while now. I seriously love all of their products. My husband, M (Preppy Dad?) was given the opportunity to try Derma MD's Hero Power Wash Shave and Cleanse.

The Hero Power Wash is a unique all in one cleanser and shaving gel that deep cleanses pores, conditions, reduces razor bumps and increases moisture retention. Similar to the Enzyme Cleanser that I use, the Hero Power wash also is made with pineapple enzymes to help exfoliate the skin.

Like many husbands, when M and I started dating, I swear he would have been fine washing his face with a Brillo Pad. I can happily say that he pays a little more attention now. I would love to say that I have been able to get him using moisturizer or eye cream, but baby steps are fine! He reports that he really likes the Hero Power Wash. He uses it in the shower, both to wash his face, and to shave. It doesn't leave him red or sensitive, it cleans his face without over cleansing it to the point of being tight, and it helps him to achieve a close shave. I would say that it's a success based on him saying he wants to continue using the Hero Power Wash, and not just a "sure, whatever."

Derma MD has been so generous, and they have given me TWO bottles of Hero Power Wash to give away.

As always, you can get Derma MD products for 50% off at and use code "Preppy Mom."
