Sunday Social-June 29, 2014
It's Sunday, which means it's time for the Sunday Social. Every week, I link up with Ashley and Neely (along with so many other bloggers) to answer fun questions. It's a great way to make new blogger friends!
  1. What was your college major? Did you ever change majors?  I have a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Art Education, and a Master's of Education in Educational Counseling.  I definitely changed my major-pretty drastically, actually. I started out Pre-Med, and changed to Education my Junior year. After spending that Summer in Paris, I changed to Art Education.
  2. Best purchase you have made lately? We've really been on a tight budget for the past several months, but after making some money on eBay, I purchased a Kate Spade Bruno Cafe tote that I've been wanting for almost a year. It was during their 75% off sale, and I had a coupon, so I got it for $68. Then they announced a 25% off sale prices, and I called just to see if they might consider an adjustment, and they credited me another $18!
  3. Something silly we don’t know about you and go… There are a lot of silly things about me, actually-I definitely have a goofy side. When I was in college, I think, I heard somewhere that hummingbirds didn't have feet. I know it is rediculous, but I believed it. My high school/college boyfriend took great pleasure in proving my wrong. It just kind of sounded possible since they're always in flight. Not my proudest moment.
  4. Favorite Holiday? I don't know if too many people will say this, but I love Valentine's Day. I've always loved Valentine's Day since elementary school when we had to decorate little bags as our mailboxes, and hand them out to the  whole class. I also love everything pink, and hearts.
  5. The first thing you do when you wake up? Random and boring, but I take my medicine before my feet even hit the ground each day.
I know I say it all the time, but please leave me comments! I love hearing from you!

Blues Jean Bar Express Review

Blues Jean Bar was so nice to send me a box of jeans and other clothes for review. I have to say, except for the cut of one pair of jeans, I would have LOVED to be able to afford to purchase this entire box. I loved everything, and it all fit, which is super unusual for me! I have the hardest time finding cute clothes that fit me. I mean, many of the items from the Blues Jean Bar Express box would need to be hemmed, but I'm SO short, so that's not a big deal.

If you've not heard of BJB Express, they ask you about your sizes and tastes, and they send you a box of clothing whenever you ask for a shipment. You do have to have a credit card on file, but otherwise, it's free to try the clothes for a few days. After a few days, you send the items that you don't want to keep back , and they charge you for what you decide to buy. Since I've had children, I hate going to the mall, so this service is perfect for me!

For this shipment, BJB Express sent me four outfits and a pair of shoes.

The shoes that they sent were PERFECT! No surprise, I also have a hard time finding shoes. I'm between a 5.5 and a 6, but these two tone flats by Samara fit me perfectly. They are adorable, and reasonably priced at $77. A similar style of shoes by another brand are over $250! If you're looking for a cute pair of everyday flats, I do not hesitate to recommend these!

The first look was a dressier casual, and wound be adorable for a casual Friday look. There were a pair of Hunter High Rise Straight Leg Jeans in Kahlua ($182), the Shely Ponte Jacket in Navy by Amour Vert ($204), and the Bessie Tee in white by Amour Vert ($79).

The jeans, as a straight leg, are timeless. Regardless of skinny jeans, loose fit, boot cut trends, etc., you can never go wrong with a straight leg jean. Since these are a medium brown, they are a great alternative to a traditional pair of khakis. The tee is a short sleeve white tee with a little bit of a lower neckline, and a bit of a high-low cut. Obviously, this tee is extremely versatile. I could probably wear this with about 75% of my wardrobe! It would be great with any bottom, under a sweater, jacket, blazer, or by itself. If you're looking for a tee that is a little dressier, this is would be a great choice! Finally, the jacket, which is more of a navy blazer, is also timeless. Made out of a ponte knit, it is so soft! There aren't any buttons, which makes it extremely versatile. This blazer can be worn over a dress, with jeans, or a skirt. Really, the options are many. While this is a casual outfit, it definitely can be worn in dressier situations.

The next outfit was a little more casual, and so me. There was a pair of Easy Crop Mylenne Jeans by Joe's ($179), a Trudie Colorblock Tee by Amour Vert ($96), and the Ryder Jacket in Wipeout by Fidelity ($215).

This look is so wearable! The jeans, as a crop, fit me perfectly, and won't even need to be hemmed. That's pretty sad, I know! I also love Joe's Jeans. The tee by Amour Vert was so cute! I love it. It's a colorblock tee that is a soft oatmeal in the front and white in the back. It has a high-low cut. These are two very trendy looks in one shirt. It's casual, and makes the trends so easy to wear. It would be cute with jeans, a pair of shorts, or a cute short skirt. The outfit was topped with the Ryder Jean Jacket by Fidelity. The jacket is the palest of blues, so that it is almost white. Obviously, this jacket can be worn practically year round with any look. It would be great with a scarf as well.

This look is super cute and trendy. It has a pair of Petite Bootcut Laurel Jeans in Laurel by Joe's Jeans ($173), the Charlie Oversized Bat Tee by Amour Vert ($91) and an Infinity Ruffle Scarf in Mint by Mary Henry ($54).

These jeans are super cute, and while I'm not personally a huge fan of boot cut jeans, they were very comfortable. I'm sure if I were taller, I would have liked these a little more, but it could also be a personal preference. The long sleeved tee is a dark grey, and is so cute! The grey makes it a great option for most colors, and it's simplicity will go with so much. I love it with jeans, and the ruffle infinity scarf. The scarf in mint looks amazing and ties the entire outfit together. It is so cute, and infinity scarves are so trendy! This outfit is great, and would look great on any frame.

The final outfit that I tried on was a pair of Super Skinny Ankle Jeans in Onyx by Henry & Belle ($158), a black sheer shirt by Lady Jeans ($49) and a turquoise short sleeved silky top by Lady Jeans ($49).

This entire outfit fit beautifully. The jeans weren't too tight or too loose. Despite the name of "super skinny," they fit so well. These jeans are made so well! The turquoise top was my favorite piece in the outfit. Since it is short sleeved, it is perfect for summer, and it is a piece that can be dressed up or down. It feels so soft on, and is so flattering. The black sheer shirt looks lovely over the turquoise top, and would look great over a black cami as well. It has a super cute button tab sleeves. This shirt can definitely be dressed up with a cami, a skirt and a pair of pumps. The outfit as shown is so nice and will look great with a cute pair of sandals for summer.

Blues Jean Bar Express has items that are a bit higher priced than other clothing subscription services, but they are high quality, high fashion companies. I work with Marnee, and she did an amazing job putting together these looks for me. If you go to, you can read more about their service. While filling out the profile, if you put Preppy Mom in the area where it asks where you heard about the service, you will receive 15% off your purchase.

TLC VoxBox

I recently received the TLC VoxBox from Influenster to try products and review on various social media sites. This was a box that was "Mom" themed.

The first item in the box was a coupon for Breyers Gelato Indulgences. We got the Caramel Vanilla, and it was amazing. I would love to see either a raspberry or strawberry without cheesecake added.

The next item was Neosporin Neo to Go! I have two sons, aged 5 and 8. Now that summer is here, there are lots of cuts and scrapes as we are riding bikes (trying to get H off of training wheels), and are having daily trips to the park. This is great because I can spray a scrape quickly and cover with a band aid.

The next item was a bar of Ivory Soap. I have really sensitive skin, so this is great for me and the kids. I've heard about Mom's using it with crayons to make colored bubbles. Does anyone have a recipe? I love how gentle Ivory is on everyone's skin.

I've never been much of an Avon user, but Influenster sent Anew Reversalist Express Wrinkle Smoother. My skin is quite dry, so I used it on top of my moisturizer. It's a silky translucent balm that blurs the look of lines and wrinkles. It feels great on, and I'm anxious to continue using this product.

The next item was a package of Puffs to Go. This is a great purse size to take along. I have allergies, so even though it's not cough and cold season, I still need to keep them around. They have lotion in them, so my nose doesn't get chapped and dry.

The last item was a Shell Fuel Rewards Network Card. All you have to do is activate the free card, and you save when you use it at the pump. We don't fill up a ton, but this will be even better once school starts up again and we're driving the boys to clubs, sports, lessons, and to friends' houses. With the card, you can save anywhere from three cents to twenty-five cents per gallon. That's huge!

I really enjoyed this box from Influenster. It was the TLC VoxBox. These were great products! If you have any questions about any of them, feel free to comment below! Thank you, Influenster!

Social Sunday, A Complete Waste of Makeup
Hi everyone! Welcome to my Monday version of the Sunday Social-I'm sorry to be late. How was your weekend?

1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
I'm not really a scary movie person-I don't like it when things jump out at me or blood and guts. I vaguely remember watching the Freddy Krueger movies in middle school.

I do like psychological thrillers though, my favorites are Silence of the Lambs and The Lady in Black.

2. What is your favorite weird TV show you think no one else watches?
This one is really weird. I like River Monsters. Very bizarre, because I'm not an outdoorsy person, unless I'm at a pool or at the beach.
3. What is the song you can sing all the words to without any music?
Anything by Barry Manilow! I know it's really strange, but when I was in college, I would drive up to Phoenix to see my mom from U of A in Tucson, and I would have to sing along with songs I knew really loud to stay awake. Also, most 80's music!
4. What is your favorite book to re read?
I don't re-read books very often, but I'd like to read the Outlander series by Diana Gabeldon again. They're going to do a series on HBO (I think) next year, and I'd like to read them again before then.

5. The one website you visit more times a day than others?
Probably Facebook, depending on the day.

Have a great week! Remember-I love to hear from you! Comment below and let me know what you're up to!

Sunday Social-June 15, 2014
It's Sunday Social time! As always, I link up on Sundays with Ashley and Neely. It's a fun group of bloggers who link up, and the questions are either fun or thought provoking (or both).
  1. 4 favorite phone apps: I pretty much do everything from my phone, but I wouldn't exactly say my banking app, although I use it often, is a favorite. I would say my favorite are Netflix, eBay, Facebook and Bloglovin.
  2. 4 favorite summer TV shows: I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty sad about the regular season shows I watch coming to an end. There are usually a few that I pick up in the summer, but I don't know what's starting, so it's hard to say. Of the shows I know will be starting, I'm most looking forward to: Royal Pains, Hemlock Grove, Rookie Blue, and yes, I'll probably watch the summer season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. I think Royal Pains started as a summer series, and I e been hooked for a few years. I'm sad that this is the last season, because it's so good! Obviously, everyone knows we're starting with M's parents currently, and they have basic cable and there isn't a tv in the guest room. I didn't have a tv in my room until M and I got married, and being almost 14 years in, I miss it. I am enjoying Netflix and HBO Go (thanks to one of my besties). Anyhow, I randomly came across Hemlock Grove, and I watched the entire first season of this made for Netflix series. Season 2 comes out in July, so if you shows with a supernatural twist, check this one out. I jokingly call Rookie Blue, Girl in a Pickle. It's a Canadian cop show that has me asking two major things.  How can the main characters still be rookies, and how can one girl possibly get herself into so many pickles? I'm sure I've sold you on all of them-seriously, they're really good! And The Kardashians? I mean, come on! It's tv watching at its finest!
  3. 4 things you would NEVER do: Oh wow...NEVER is pretty strong and there are so many what ifs out there...let's see, 4 things I would never do of my own choosing , and if there were no what-ifs. I would never own a gun (but I absolutely do not judge anyone who does), I would never eat organ meat, like brains, kidneys, etc. I'm sure that doesn't sound big enough to be on this list, but I'm a weird enough eater, so it could be a lot longer. I would never hurt another person on purpose. I would never do any kind of life threatening stunt, and I know one of the first things I learned when I was getting my masters degree in counseling was that I'm the only person I have 100% control over, but I would like to put it out there that I would attempt to keep my children, husband, other family members, and people I love from performing those stunts either.
  4. 4 items you carry with you no matter what: My drivers license and glasses at least with me, because I once needed to follow a student in an ambulance to the hospital, and I had neither one with me. I know their ride was not delayed, but I promise to always have them with me. My inhaler, because, well duh, and my debit card.
  5. 4 blogs we should follow: I know it's self promoting, but can I say mine? Preppy Mom's Wanderings. Otherwise, Classy Girls Wear Pearls, Ramblings of a Suburban Mom, and Boobs and Loubs. The last spot could have been one of many that I read, actually, but the others are a must!

Sunday Social-June 8, 2014
It's time for another Sunday Social!
This Weeks Questions:
1. When do you take time for you?
I'm actually pretty good about this, but the wat I spend it is so different from how I used to. When I was working in boarding schools, I was often on-call 24/7. When I could get away, I would get a massage or a facial, something pampering. Now that I'm not working, and I'm sick, I sleep-a lot. M is amazing about making sure I rest, and about keeping the boys busy so I can sleep. I wouldn't exactly say sleeping 18 hours a day is exactly "me" time, but I don't do too much else currently. I am looking forward to the day when I'm not so tired (obviously), and to spend time doing more "normal" things!
2. What do you find to be your biggest weakness?
Wow...I would say my biggest weakness is probably asking for help/admitting that I'm in over my head. I have always been the kind of person who will say yes so that I don't let others down, or so that they aren't overwhelmed. I don't martyr myself by any means, but I do end up wishing I had help with things, but hate to feel like I'm burdening others by asking for help.
3. What is your biggest attribute?
My biggest attributes are probably that I am kind, and that I have a pretty sunny disposition. I care deeply for others, truly, and I can honestly say that I'm nice. I think thst kindness is often put to the side when we get busy, but I always try to take time to visit with others, and to make sure that others feel valued.
As far as my general cheerfulness, it's just how I am. I try not to let others know when I'm having a bad day, of if I'm upset about something. I honestly believe that our moods are contagious, and that being in a bad mood is a waste of time.
4. What is your favorite place to shop online?
My spending habits were pretty close to being my answer for my biggest weakness. I used to love to go to the mall, but it's not fun at all with the boys, so I'm a huge online shopper. I would say my favorite online shopping "destination" is Sephora. Even if I'm not purchasing anything, I go and read about products and put them on my wish list. I'm a cosmetics junkie, so it's not too surprising! I also like eBay a lot.
5. What is your favorite place to kill time?
I would probably answer Sephora for this as well. I can spend a lot of time smelling perfumes and searching colors. If I find something I'm interested in reading more about, I'll jot it down.
I also kill a lot of time reading blogs of people I follow, or about things I'm interested in.

This week's questions were pretty thought provoking for me, which is always good.
M has a major job interview on Tuesday. Fingers crossed on that! The boys are going to Vacation Bible School. Since we just moved to Iowa, and we aren't in a house of our own yet, they have only met a few kids. It will be good for them to have some structured time with other children.
What's going on for all of you this week?

May Wantable Intimates Box

I was so excited when Wantable asked me to do a May review. I chose the intimates box, and it arrived so quickly!

Wantable is a monthly box, and you can choose from makeup, intimates or accessories. If you subscribe for a monthly box, each box is $36. If you don't want to subscribe, you can still buy a box for $40. If you'd like to check it out, you can use my link here

One of the things I love about Wantable, is that you are able to put your preferences in, and you receive items based on what you like. I wanted to receive fun items, so I put that I dislike shapewear and accessories, because frankly-shapewear and bra clips aren't too fun for me. Sometimes they are necessary though! I'm pasting my preferences below. Wantable is great about following your preferences, and if you don't like the box, you can return it!

The first item that I unpacked was an adorable Emily Flyaway Babydoll from Pucker Up! I've never heard of this brand, but the nightie is SO me (if I'm wearing more than pj bottoms and a tee)! I love everything that is pink, so I was super excited about this pretty nightie.

The back is just as pretty, and I love that it is a halter.

The next item in my box was a great pair of Five Color Knee High Socks from Happy Socks. I love Happy Socks, and these are great. I probably will put them aside until Fall, but again, Wantable sent me an item that I really like.

Wantable sent me two pairs of panties in my May box. They are both really pretty and soft, and I know they will be great. The sizing is a little off, but not enough to worry about.

The first pair was the Erika Hipster by Pucker Up! They are a cute plaid, which I really like. Preppies love plaids-right down to their panties!

The second pair were Sweet Cupcakes Lace Trim Panties by Rhonda Sheer. I really like her line, and these are lovely.

All in all, this was a great box. I was thrilled to review for Wantable, and I thank them for sending me a box to review.

***Disclosure*** This review contains referral links. I was sent this complimentary box from Wantable to review, but received no compensation. All of the opinions are my own.
